Police Warning, 26 Apr, Attempted child abduction in the area
April 26, 2010
URGENT NEWS FROM THE POLICE
Several Armour parents just finished having a discussion with Officer Scott Kingdon, 32 Division, who was parked outside of a home at Esgore, close to Yonge Blvd. Officer Kingdon asked us to help spread this urgent message throughout our neighbourhood.
At approximately 7:00 pm this evening (Mon. Apr 26th), a 7 year old girl who lives outside of our area, was visiting her friend who lives on Esgore (at Yonge Blvd). This young girl was playing alone inside the garage of the home and her friend had gone inside for a brief moment. A man walked into the garage and approached the girl. He is approximately 40 years old in age, somewhat scruffy, and balding with a black moustache. He was wearing a black leather jacket, a red baseball cap, and a green and white checkered shirt. He asked the girl to accompany him to the store. When she said no, he grabbed her by the arm and began to drag her out of the garage. At that point, the girlfriend came out of the house and startled the man. He let go of the girl and ran. There have been/are many police cars in the neighbourhood looking for this man. The likelihood is he is no longer in the area (he was on a bike).
This man has been seen in our neighbourhood before although there has never been a formal report of any incidences where he has been involved. He has been seen riding a bike in our area by some and Officer Kingdon stated that he "definitely stands out as being someone who does not fit in this neighbourhood....perhaps he is homeless".
Officer Kingdon said that this incident is "very serious and disturbing". The fact that he tried to abduct this young girl is "bad news" for our neighbourhood. He said that everyone should be on the look-out, and word shoul! d be spr ead with regard to this specific incident and his physical description.
If anyone sees a man who fits this description, they should call 9-1-1 immediately. Officer Kingdon said that it would be better to make a mistake and have someone questioned, than to not make a call at all if you are suspicious. When asked if police cars will be patrolling our neighbourhood, he said that officers will try to drive through when they have down time in their schedules.
